Audi A6 The mid-sized Audi A6 model offers more room to the driver and passengers over the A4 line.

Timing Belt, etc. estimate - reasonable?

if it is the driver's side cam seal, shouldnt be 700 dollars. the driver's side cam seal will be cheaper because it is not connected to the tb. should be around 300-400 dollars. if doing both, 700 should be a good price but you should get it cheaper if done with the timing belt job. timing belt job at 900? parts are around 200...which means ur paying for 700 in labor. timing belt can be done in 4 hours but is usually done at around 6-7. so he is charging you 100 dollars per hour of service which is quite high. just know, cam seal replacements are rather cheap in parts (5 dollars per seal) but time to get it done varies. a good mechanic does it at around 2-3 hours(driver's side head). so 700 dollars per head....is totally bad. this is what i know from a 2.8 v6 30v

also, if your cam tensioner needs to be replaced...im not sure but those things cost ALOT. 500-600 dollars for the part only. so if he tries to bring up that ur cam tensioner is fucked, just know he is telling you your gonna pay a lot more. unless you do it urself of course.

I got lucky and ran across a laid off certified audi mechanic. I got timing belt, water pump, thermostat, cam seals, tie rods, front and rear shocks and struts, brake pads, and a few more things done for $500 in labor.

Not sure if places usually do this... but the prices i listed above included sales tax. So that saved a couple hundred dollars overall.
