timing belt & water pump replacement any help ?
 

I have a 2000 a6 2.7 turbo love the car miles is 190000 run great but I have no idea when the timing belt or water was change I would like to change it has anyone ever change there how hard is it to do I am very mechanical any special tools I need to have ? How
long is the job any help would be great thanks .

its a bitch of a job. you need to either drop the engine or take the front of the car off. you can actually swing the front end over by only disconnecting one side. then you dont have to disconnect the a/c.

I recommend taking the front off, it makes everything much easier that way. If you are mechanical minded you shouldn't have any trouble with the job. there are a lot of pretty decent walkthroughs out there, just study up on the procedure ahead of time. Nothing is really difficult per se, just a PITA to do all the labor required just to get to the point where you can get at the timing belt and components. Make sure you evaluate everything that you might want to change while you are in there because it is definitely not the kind of job that you will want to do again anytime soon.

I did mine on the 2002 4.2 at 82k (2.5 years ago) and it was a huge PITA as everyone states in here.
I took the entire front off, had access to plenty of tools and a lift. Since this was my first time it took me roughly 10h for the entire job. I'm sure there are peeps out there that can do it in less but I doubt you really want to set a world record on an important job like this one ;)

I replaced my 2004 2.7 timing belt. I was not that bad of a job. There were two things which I had trouble with. Both were no where to be found in the Bently manual. One was a water pump bolt only assessable through a small hole in water pump pully then turning pulley to line up hole with the bolt behind it. Very hard to see. The second was having to remove the left engine mount to gain acccess to remove crank shaft plug to install crank alignment pin. Good Luck

If you do it, then get the proper tools. Cam lock bar, crank lock pin, and gear puller to pull the sprockets off the cam... Those 3 tools ARE required unless you want to do it over again.
