Default Timing system MRI??

I have a 2001 Audi A6 with 70,000 miles. My dealer says I need a Timing System Mechanical Replacement Interval which is not covered under warranty. This includes replacing timing belt, timing system tensioner and relay rollers, damping mechanism, coolant pump replacement, termostat/seals and engine coolant... It's a $1295 service. Is this really necessary? It seems this should be a warranty item since it's engine related...???

its a good idea to have all this done but a little over the top, there's nothing in the book says all that needs doing, 74,000 miles for the timing belt and its recommended to change the tension and idler rollers and to check the rest and if required they would tell you if they need changing

If you are doing the timing belt, just do the rest of the stuff since the area is already open. But do yourself a favor. Get the timing belt kit from ecs www.ecstuning.com for 275$ and go to a mechanic who will do the job for 300-500$. Save money and get better quality work done. Dealers are bad news.
