I'm a new member who recently bought a certified used Audi A6, 2008 quattro, 3.2 with 15,000 miles It came with Michelin 245 -40 R18 97 H tires. The ride is a bit harsher than I'm used to and would like to change a "softer" tire. What do you suggest?

 

Take a look at Tire Rack's owner surveys and tests and see what tires give a more comfortable ride in that size or a 255 size.

if your trying to save money check out tirerack.com. There is a tire on there that is a great deal for a pretty decent tire. I forget the name, I think they were called Generals or something like that.

 

Hey, I'll chime in too. I purchased four new Eagle LS2 in late 2009 because I'm a cheap bastard according to my wife. I prefer frugal of course, but anyway, I couldn't touch the price. They run fine, relatively quiet, actually semi-decent in snow/rain. Go ahead and save some money now and put it aside for your next Audi repair.

Tires are going to get worn down no matter what you do and unless you are racing in any way seriously just get some decent cheapish tires. A car will run with any tires, but an audi wont run if any one of 1000 things go wrong. Keep some cash for emergecy repairs for sure.

 

At the Tirerack..one tip I found at Edmunds, find the category of tire your interested in and measure the results using Total Miles Driven in the Survey results to get the most accurate measurement of the best tire... not by the way they are listed.

Yes, General tire did rate very high in the UHP summer category using the above factor.

 

The Bridgestones are great I bought the pole position. Keep in mind they may not be the best in winter weather but I wouldn't expect any type of smooth handling from an aggressive tire either. I like them 100% better than the Michelin energy that were on the car previously.

When it comes to my family cars I would rather have a better tire than a cheapo. I'm not saying Michelins are cheapo's at all/ Just saying I would rather have a Bridgestone, Michelin, Perelli or a good name brand with good reviews than to save money and hope the wife and kids don't have a blow out. The Michelin,s however seem to be easily punctured or maybe it could be my old ladies driving abilities....

 

I'm not too concerned about snow here in west palm....if we get snow then I'm guessing I'm going to have some other problems as well. I would like to get the pzero rosso's but I can't get them in my size.
