I have a bearing noise in the standard 6 speed transmission. My mechanic said we could continue to drive the car (80k miles) but recommends a new transmission ($$). Is this a common problem and is it safe to drive or what is the failure mode if the bearing is making noise? Have had the wheel bearings checked and are sure the noise is from the transmission. Hear the noise increase pitch as the car speeds up and the noise is there when the car is in or out of gear or the clutch is depressed at speed.

 

I also havbe a noise have you fixed yours and if not did it give you any trouble
