Default Turbo Timers, are they worth the $

I am feeling a bit put out by the need to run the engine two minutes after each drive... I understand that in theory the turbo cooling pump system should do the job, yet Audi still recommends the cool down. No my time is not like Bill Gate's, It does not kill me to do the cool down, but it can be a pain in the *** to sit at the gas station running for two minutes. I also am not wanting to add stuff that is unnecessary. Please enlighten me...

The coolant pump will run after you turn the car off, so there's really no point to have a turbo timer.

I acknowledged that above in my post, why then does Audi recommend a two minute cool down in park/neutral. If this cool down is necessary, would not the timer simulate being run in p/n?

I look at it this way. If my oil temp is lower than my coolant temp, I wait a few seconds and turn it off. If my oil temp is higher than my coolant temp, i'll wait for it to drop before shutting down. I live in a cooler climate, and have a few minute cruise at 40 to 50 km/h through the neighbour hood before I pull into the dirveway anyway, so by the time I get there, the oil temps have droped and I don't see the need to sit in my car with it idling.

I think you'll find that your after-run pump very rarely runs when you shut off - your engine has to be almost on fire to make that thing work. Drive gently for the last mile or so and your turbos will be plenty cool enough to spool down safely. Warming them up is more critical than cooling them down, so stay below 2000 rpm if you can until the coolant temp is normal. I am the slowest guy in town every morning until warmed up!
