Default Turbo Upgrade and misc parts replacement

I want to swap my turbos out for k04's as well as replacing other parts of my 01' A6 2.7t. I want to replace the timing belt, torque converter and my egt sensors. Anyone have any idea how much labor would cost me if I already have the parts? I would like to get this done asap!

really depends on the labor rates in your area and how much the shop/guy doing the labor wants to screw you. If the shop calculates billable hours for each task separately, well, your car isn't worth that much and you can't afford it.

I would suggest a reasonable quote for what you want would be around $3-4K. Consider that is guess.

I was quoted at least $4500 min in labor costs. The head mechanic told me the turbo swap will take about 16 hours, torque converter is 18 hours, and 7 hours for the timing belt kit. Roughly about 50 hours in total labor...is this in the right ballpark?

I don't know if I should keep this car now, I would like to do some of the repairs myself, specifically the timing belt and egt sensors but I simply don't have the time.

Maybe I should sell it and the money potentially spent on repairs and parts, I will spend on a car upgrade. What do you people think?

find a different shop.

the mechanic gave you the estimate based on doing each job separately based on the "book" hours. Since doing the turbos requires the engine to be out of the car, that can be combined with the hours to do the timing belt. I'm not sure what all goes into doing the torque converter but I believe that is a similar situation, ie. with the engine already out of the car for the turbos it wont take the "book" hours to do the work. Hope that makes sense, my brain feels mushy.

make no mistake, it is still going to be expensive, just not that expensive. Are you set on K04s? You can save a good bit by sticking with K03s or perhaps different aftermarket turbos. If you aren't going to invest in chip tuning, ICs, injectors, fuel pump, etc there is really no advantage to K04s.

just some things to think about. as you suggested you may just be better off buying something else.

The TC is one hour added to the turbo job. However, your assessment of "sell the car" is your best bet. If you want to do stuff like this, get a Sube or Evo. An A6 ain't worth it.
