Uh oh, does this mean bad oil lines?
I have noticed an occasional smell of oil burning. Not exhaust type, more the smell of it burning on a hot surface. And I never saw a drop under the car to say there was a leak. Then today, after driving a few min, I had popped the hood & there was some slight smoke coming up from the drivers side bank of cylinders. So I assume its burning off the manifold or turbo..
Talk to me boys, what is it & how do I fix it?
Thanks

What engine do you have?
As I learned, for my 2.8 most common burning oil spots are: valve cover gaskets... leaking half-moon seals for the cam tentioners, head seals.
Everything esle will leak on the bottom and burn on the cats. Smoke will go off the sides brobably. Look under the car if your cats are clear, then you are leaking on top from places mentioned above. Take off engine covers and see where the oily spots are.
Well, the main difference with mine is turbo stuff, other then that it's the same (I even partially used 2.7 diagram while doing my timing belt=)
The most common place is valve cover gaskets, that's when you smell it with AC/heater working =)
Those are cheap to replace. If it's the chain tentioner seals - that's much more complicated.

VCG & cam seals. The VCG leaks down the back of the engine, right on the turbo, so it burns off & smells. If you have a mirror & a flash light you might be abel to sneak a peak down the passenger back side.
This is a common problem, the gaskets are around $75 & most shops are 5hrs labor.

Not that my head is that big, but it ain't fitting anywhere in this engine bay... lol
I never see spots under the car, I am thinking its valve cover gaskets based on location & what I could see..
