I was recently offered a 2001 Audi A6 4.2 V8 for a price I really don't think I can turn down. It currently has ~110k miles.

The only problem is I know NOTHING about Audis.

What should I look for. What should I make sure the mechanic looks for before if/when I buy it?

I really know nothing so anything would be helpful.

The 4.2 engine is a durable work horse. Unfortunately because of the weight of the car the suspension tends to have issues. Also electrical issues can be a problem. I suggest you go to an Audi dealer with the VIN number and ask them to print out the service history. You should also check the ebahn website and see what techinical service bbulletins have been issued on the car. Good luck. You will love the 4.2.

 

Do you think that 111k miles is too many for a 2001? Like I said I know nothing about these cars (or for the most part, cars in general).

There is also a dent in the windshield (a) pillar on the drivers side. Don't know how big of a deal that is to fix on Audis or any car for the matter.

Anyone know of a good Audi mechanic in the San Francisco/Peninsula area?
