There are lots of serial to USB adaptors available. Just make sure the one you get is High speed. I believe Ross Tech and other list recomendations on their web sites.
the recommended USBCOM is PCIMCA type, because many low price USB adapters DO NOT EMULATE CSD, RTC pins used by the adapther. I know that Prolific USB COM seems to work ok.
Ross-tech is the ONLY place for the software, but just about any ODBII cable will work. But if you want to troubleshoot & fix your own car, buy the whole version from Ross-Tech, it WILL pay for it's self after ONE use!
