Vibration when shifting gears...
I have a 2000 A6 2.8 2wd auto/tip. I'm getting a horrid shake as I drive the car. It only seems to happen at certain RPM's and at different speeds. I've isolated it to the point the car shifts gears. If I place the car in tiptronic, and shift aggressively the shake is almost not present. If I leave it in auto and driver regularly it shakes at what seems to be the point if shifts gears. It just started happening one day about 3 months ago. It seems to be getting worse. I've just replaced all (8) control arms and TRE's (not for this issue though, they just needed replacing, I only mention it as an FYI). My tranny pan seems to be moist. I'm wondering if it's motor mounts, low transmission fluid, or something else?
from what ive heard sounds like either low tranny fluid, or your converter clutch is going. normally if the clutch starts to go, when it engages it will shake the car (sometimes violently and very noticably). getting up to and crusing around 55-60 mph the clutch will normally engage, kinda like a 6th gear, does the car shake then? if so that could be it
you need to check it with a Vag Com. Where are you located? i can possibly help you
I'm located in St. Louis, MO.
Quick update...
1. I drove the car a bit tonight. The shaking doesn't just happen at shifts. It seems more evident just after the shift, as the car is building speed.
2. Later this evening, with the car on (4) jack stands, I removed the large recessed allen head plug in the transmission pan. No fluid leaks out. I formed a small plastic rod into a "U" and dipped it into the pan, and it seems like the fluid level is juat at the lip of the recessed portion of the pan. Also the plug I removed has fluid on top of it.
3. While under the car I had my son press on the brake and put the car in gear. The engine lifts an easy 1" away from the frame when placed in gear. It looks very sloppy. I'm thinking my engine mounts are shot. Maybe my transmission mounts also as there is a fair amount of play there as well. I happen to have a 2004 2.7T also, and it doesn't move nearly as much.
I'm wondering if the mounts would contribute to the shaking.

Quick update... I replaced both lower motor mounts. (Quite a work out, but not too bad)Shudder has lessened a bit, but it's still there. When I throw the car over to tip the shake occurs at approx 2,000 - 2,200 RPM for second, third, and fouth gear. In auto, it seems to shake at 1,500 - 1,800 RPM in second, third, and fourth gear. Any other thoughts?
