Angry A warning sound when shift on "R"

Hello-

I am looking to get a A6. I checked two A6s this weekend. the 2004 Audi A6 generated sound when I shifted to "R" from the back seat somewhere, but another 2003 Audi A6 did not have sound. Sound seemed coming out from the back somewhere. I wonder why it generated sound when shift was on Reverse. I did put seat belt, but it won't help. Does someone know why sound was generated? Is this a sort of warning from transmission? Your answers are appreciated.

idk, it could have been the back up sensors so you dont hit anything.

yes the reverse parking aid, it is very useful. Ods are that if you have the mirror switch to the right the right mirror will deflect downwards so you can see the cerb

Its a test tone when you shift into reverse to tell you thats what it would sound like if there is a object in the back within the sensor's range.

FYI - For those that find the noise annoying, you can adjust the pitch and volume of the audible warning of the parktronic with the VAG COM. Slightly lower pitch and slightly lower volume, but everything helps!

Just go to the Parktronic control module (address 76) and click "adaptation,"
Channel 01: Volume of rear warning (range 2-7 with lower number being lower volume)
Channel 02: Pitch of rear warning (range 0-4 with lower number being lower pitch)

Oh, cool! That pitch drives me nuts first thing in the morning. Vag-Com, here I come this afternoon!

Thanks for that tip!
