Water leak inside cabin

When it rains, I get a "puddle" on my driver-side floor. It drips from right above the hood latch-pull under the dash, and runs down the kick-panel. I can't tell where under the hood it's coming from, but the black trim piece at the base of the windshield is flat all the across.

I'm having the same problem with my 00 but on the passenger side. Haven't found out where it is coming in from though.

You've got clogged cowl drains. Take plastic cowl panel cover off, find drains, Blow out with air hose.

I took the cowl cover off. but I found no drains. How many are there, and where do you find them?
Thanks.

Theres one under the battery shelf. I hear theres another under the brake servo. You'll either have to shoot compressed air in under the battery (if your stuck) or do the proper job and remove the battery (1 bolt) and shelf (3 bolts) and there you'll find a bunch of leaves and garb stuffing up your drain hole. I usually get the garden hose and give the area a good wash out after clearing the drain, You'd be surprised how much stuff builds up in there even with the plastic liner fitted. I get this problem about 2-3 times a year (Well I do live in Ireland....rain,rain,rain!!)
The water that lodges in the 'battery compartment', once the level is right, tips up into your air filter box on your driver side and down into the blower fan and into the cabin.

Or you could have a leak in your windscreen, holefully not though.

Oh thanks for your help, now I can find them and clean them out. I found the leak though. On the roof there are two channels (near the doors) in the metal that go the length of the roof. Where the channel meets the windshield on the top driver side, there is supposed to be rubber sealant, but it's missing. So I filled it with some RTV and it worked (it rained last night).

Mine turned out to be the water tray not being installed correctly. Stupid stealership.

Oh never mind. It still leaks. It's coming through where the cabin air filter sits. It gets all wet too. Is there supposed to be a piece of weatherstripping on the back part of the tray?

I had the same problem on my 2000 A6 - it turned out to be a leaking windscreen just above the air filter. I carefully masked the entire lower section of the screen to plug the gap and applied mastic. It is now about 6 months later and the problem has not returned. The only problem now is that the car smells due to the carpet being damp for a long time.

Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement carpet without having to pay a ridiculous sum to the dealer?
