I'd like to gather some data on when people replaced their timing belts on their A6 4.2s. I've seen everything from 60K to 105K on the forum. Also please note if you were too late and what the mileage was.

88.5K and none too soon, the tensioner was bad and needed replacement.

I had mine replaced at 74k just to be safe. I recommend doing it sooner than later...

She is doing fine, but I don't advise this (may be I shouldn't have mentioned it)

I bought my 2000 4.2 with 125,000 on the clock. The timming belt had supposedly been changed at 90,000 and it looked like it probably had been. The rest of it looked worn to me so I put a TB kit in along with a water pump.
This was all easy work compared to installing new oil cooler seals. I spent over 1hr. trying to get 1 bolt into 1 hole! and then I had to get a wrench on it ect. Beng
