Default What a MORON!

I cant believe what I just did.

I went out to change the oil in the 2001 A6 2.7TT tonight and , not paying attention and in a hurry, drained theTiptronic transmission fluid instead...............................like a MORON!

GREAT!

From what I am guessing, the stealership will have to use VASCOM and a fluid pump to refill it and service it back to normal.

JEESH!

Well.. I didn't do anything so drastic... but I got a P0455 code on the computer.. did an internet search, everyone says : Check the gas cap. Turns out I filled the car up... closed the flap and drove away without putting the cap in.... Now I feel like an az. And have to see if they have the cap, or pay the monies for a new one. Argh....

Tiptronic transmission just means automatic to me with a fancy paddle you fill through the dip stick

LOL. If you can show me a tranny dipstick on a 2001 A6 2.7T, I will paypal you $5000.00 immediately. FWIW, they are sealed from the factory and deemed as "unserviceable".

Now come on Avant you know theres no dipstick

And for the orignal poster if you dont know the difference between the oil pan and the tranny pan you really shouldnt be underneath a car

AudiTech04, I have worked on my own vehicles for 18 years. I just got ahead of myself on this car and didnt bother to "search" for the oil drain plug. I assumed, and it cost me. As I was doing it, and once I realized I was draining the tranny, I thought, ahh, I will go ahead and drain the tranny and change the fluid while I am at it. Lo and behold. At that point, I had already located the oil drain plug under the belly plate. Crazy me. It wont happen again, I can guarantee it. $400 mistake after towing and dealer bill.

actually AudiTech04 I didn't know the newer ones didn't have the automatic dipstick removed till now, i'm not an Audi tech and automatics just don't come into the garage but having said that the automatic still has the the filler point just not the dipstick part which is a shame because it made it easier to drain and refill
