What do you mean by replace?
You want to swap a motor or do you mean what came after as in what was offered after the 2.8 was available?

 

You replace 2.8 with a 2.8, unless you want to spend an extra few grand. Even so, it is not as easy as swapping Chevy small blocks or Honda B series.

 

2.8 was replaced by the 3.0

3.0 was replaced by 3.2

is that what you mean?

Sorry have problems posting.I see a alot of motors with letters after them like AHA,etc......Whould like to know what mine is.I found a 2003 vw motor 2.8 30v,would like to know if it would fit in my car.1999 a6 avant quattro.

 

Asking in english may help you with your answers.

A passat and an A6 are the exact same cars. other than the exterior, everything under the car is the same.

If you can find and A6 engine, I would go with that. If you can find a 2.8 passat engine, that will work too.

 

99 A6 has an AHA motor

2003 won't work because it is DBW, and yours in Non-DBW

Drive by wire (or Non-Drive by wire)... your throttle is not electronically controlled. ECU is also different.
