I think that Amsoil is great, but I don't feel confident in going 20,000+ miles between changes no matter how good the oil is. I tend to overchange the oil. Say every 5,000 miles or so. That is crazy if you are using amsoil, but I would rather be safe.

Default oil and filter

i just had my oil and filter changed yesterday and for what its worth....
castrol syntec 5w-30 with the k&n filter (part no# HP3001).

i dont know if it was the oil or the filter or the combination of both, but i can swear to u my cars slight vibration that i always felt from day 1 on my steering wheel and through the seat had disappeared! the vibration was something that i took for granted because i just assumed it was a smaller engine. but using both made it go away.

i did some research at many different audi forums and i saw that castrol syntec was being used by alot. and on the oil filters, k&n was mentioned frequently. so i figure why not use the both.

**my engine is the 1.8T - 50k miles '05

I have a great history with Mobil 1 15-50. It is more of a performance oil. I live in New England but garage it at night so the cold isnt an issue. Last a6 2.8 went 200k. Prior a4 went 188k and use it in my a6 s-line 2.7t. I change it every 7500 mi (2 cpu resets). It was recomended to me long ago by my mechanic who specializes in audis and turbo / performance vehicles. I've had great results.

What does everyone think of Mobile one oils, better than Castrol?
Either will do. Personally I use Mobil 1 5w-40 year round ($10-15 a Gallon at Walmart) with the only filter I will ever use - Purolator Pure One. The K&N's are a joke... Just a Moble One (made by Champion, I think) with a nut welded on.

The only "synthetic" oil that's below $ 15 at WalMart is SuperTech....$ 13 for a 5 quarts bottle.

In the $ 10-15 range you must be talking about the Mobil Clean 5000, which is $ 11 for 5 quarts.

Mobil1 synthetic starts from $ 26 (that's for a 5-quart bottle). If you buy it by individual quarts is higher than that.
By the way, I never seen at WalMart oil sold by gallon bottles.
