Windshield Wiper Adjustment?

Windshield Wiper Adjustment?
I have a '95 A6 Avant 2.7 w/98,0004 miles. I bought it w/54,000 miles and have always had issues with the wipers maintaining solid contact with the windshield. When using the washers it leaves the drivers side worse than without trying wash, and in the freezing rain, it just coats the window making it completely unsafe to try to drive. I was told by Anderson Motorsport, to fix this I just needed to put some oil on the arms where they contect and move the arms up and down for a while to work the oil in. I have done that several times and it does not help.
Has anyone else has these issues with their wipers and if so, how is it fixed? Thanks

There are three parts to a successful windshield snow removal system. First, the tiny hinges at the bottom of the arm that allow it to pull away from the window need to be free of rust and move freely. If it's sticking, it will not press against the windshield. The coil springs underneath serve to pull the wiper against the windshield -- make sure they are firmly attached and provide some resistance when you lift the arm away from the window. Lastly, a good curved blade that properly fits against the windshield. A beam blade like Bosch or Michelin should fit and seems to press against the windshield better than a blade with the metal back. They are a little pricey, but what it takes to see in snow and ice. If the hinge or spring are shot, you may have to buy replacement arms.

There is a forth area: the top hinge where the arm attaches to the blade. This is problematic in my car, an '02 with the aero blades, and it needs oiling on a regular basis. I use Kroil which worked MUCH better than other oils I had tried.
