Talking about headlights, on my 98 A6, it's got Xenon headlights but one seems higher than the other. Is this normal? Or should I adjust it to a "normal" level. Mine don't auto adjust either, I assume there's a screw to adjust them?

Which wheel? I don't know what side the sensor is on in my 2003 A4.

Thanks!

My left rear sensor went bad (or something, meh nothing else is affected) and so my headlights wouldn't auto correct. If you have VAG-COM here is the fix! It brings it up to the home level without acknowledging the sensors. Found here.

[Select]
[55 - Xenon Range] (For some newer vehicles, use [29 - Left Light] instead )
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 001
[Go!]

If you have the ebay cord, then send me a pm and I can let you know how to trick the program to think you're using the full registered version (which is required to use Basic Settings).

This fix comes up with a fault code that the headlights aren't adjusted, which is good! That means they won't move ever again which might be better than how they worked in the first place :-/

Default Similar Issue

I too have an 04 A6 with Xenon healights with a mind of their own. Most of the time they work well but radomly they're pointed to my bumper for no reason and I'm not getting any warning on the dash. I park in the exact same parking spot everyday so I don't think it's related to being parked on an incline etc. Took it to the dealership who "cleaned the mechanism." This has helped and the problem is less frequent but still occurs and is very bad when it does. Does anyone know if a fix of this nature would be covered under CPO? I'd like to get it fixed but don't want to pay hundreds of dollars to do so.

I have a 2004 A4 Cabriolet and my headlights are aimed properly, but every time I start the car I get the auto adjust error message with annoying beep and the warning stays on. I'm going to try all of the things mentioned in this thread and I'll let you know how it works.
