He should know we are messing around with comments like
"Earplugs optional"
and "Let us know how it works. That is - if you can still type after the big boom!"
Just so you know --
Before doing ANY welding /cutting on a used gas tank one should fill it with water.
Lowest cost option.
How many miles did you average to a tank?
take 50 off this number and note new number down.
Fill up, reset your trip meter and drive until the tank -50 milage, then re-fill.
Do this untill you have time/cash to fix.
Next, look for all the connections and unplug/clean (with some sort of solvant electrical connection cleaner).

Got Bose?
turn it up!

If he disconnected the sender some where accessible, after would a battery disconnect for 5 mins reset the beep?
Interesting - I wonder what no signal from the tank would do to the beeper and vehicle logic...
Since is probably a variable resistor he could unplug the level sensor, measure the resistance at the tank -when it is working corectly - and put one with the correct ohms in the conector to fool the beeper..

Whats all this talk about cutting the tank out...... You guys do know there are three access holes to the tank senders that require removing nothing more than the two hatches under the rear bench seat, and then removing the carpet in the trunk, right?
You can literally change all thee senders in 15 minutes.
Edit: In fact, the dealer usually sells all three senders together as a kit.

That is too easy and not Audi like! It is better to cut the bottom of the tank out to get to the level sensors.. After that he will need a lot od glue to put it back together!

The damn thing can read our minds --- Just when we begin to think that it is freakin wonderful and without problems it bits us.
Speakin about cranks under the back seat - I just found mine sitting next to me.
