03 A8L - Dead, won't start - what is a Cluster Immobilizer?
Car died on me in CT (100 miles from home), felt like it simply ran out of gas. Cranked fine just no 'fire'.
Dealer tells me that the "Instrument Cluster immobilizer" might be bad - what the heck is that?
Expensive?

Its not the immobilizer, thats an antitheft system which recognizes the keys. If the key isn't recognized it will shut the motor off once started. If it were a faulty immobilizer the car would continually start then die. If its just cranking, the two best possibilities are a faulty fuel pump, or a bad crank sensor.
That's what I thought - the car is at Hoffman Audi in CT now... the crank sensor makes sense.... as does the fuel pump....
I'm driving around in my 67 GTX to get back and forth to work right now - it's killing me!
