yea, don't go to audi... get a key online (using the part# to be sure) and get it programmed using a VAG-Com or go to a local shop and it'll still be less than the $200+ the dealer will charge you total...

CrazyEights 10-10-2008 12:48 PM

on ebay, keys are like $10-60 tops...

I don't know if it trust those ebay keys, any electronical device from Ebay scares me.

You have to go to an Audi dealer. I have a 2000 A8 swb. On the A8's the key is programmed to the VIN number, not another key. There aren't many facilities that can program it, so they have to send out for the key, that is, unless you happen to live near on of the facilities that can program the new key. It ran me roughly $150 for the key, but it's bailed me out a few times. Plus, sometimes I have to let my bro use my car.

yea, i just luckily have a place nearby that can program keys to match the VIN. the ebay keys are cool for the most part as long as you make sure the part number matches. no match, don't buy... or if you were in my area, you could jus go to the shop i go to and they could get you one on discount with a guarantee... still less than the stealtership, but go with what works for you.

Yeah, I had the same issue and our dealership wants to charge me $180! I understand that it is programmed specifically for each individual car, but it seems rediculous to pay that much just for a key.

I have a 2000 A8 and my tranny needs replacement. It doesnt go in reverse and I dont even have 75K miles. Unacceptable if you ask me. I would go with a more reliable model, or car for that reason!

CrazyEights 10-22-2008 10:48 AM

yea, my car is on its second tranny now... it was replaced at 57k miles right before i bought it and has a warranty on the transmission. best bet to keep it running is to do regular tranny flushes with audi fluid i'd think.
