2001 A8L Basic Info Needed
Hello, we are considering buying a 2001 A8L. Please confirm if the 40V engine still requires timing belt service, and at what mileage. I am told the A8L has a nav system as standard equipment. Is the screen hidden somewhere, or is it the text type in the radio? Color or in red? The car has a little raised box on the trunk. Nav antenna? I see a single slot CD in the Symphony stereo. Is the system single disc or CD changer?
How can you tell if the t-belt has been changed? Anyone changed it themselves (I am mechanically inclined).
What are the biggest concerns for this car? It has about 90k on it.
Thanks in advance!

RE: 2001 A8L Basic Info Needed
I have (2) 2000's which is essentialy the same car. Yes, TB does need to be changed, recommended interval is 105k, There is a procedure on audipages.com for the 32v which is very close. I'm doing mine between xmas and new years. No "screen", display is directional arrows on the dash only - color.
Raised box is nav antenna, yes. Should have changer in the trunk along with single in dash CD.
Back to TB, probably not done at 90k and hard to tell w/o receipts. The TB cover pops off easily. Post 2000 TB usually get done because the thermostats go bad (which sit behind the TB).
Control arms, transmission are things to be aware of....
