Before I send my trusty old A6 to pasture (or pass on to my wife or daughter as a "winter car") and take the plunge to buy an early 2000's A8 or A8L, can anyone attest (or not) a rumor I have heard that these cars have a reputation for having transmission problems?

Probably a rumor, I don't think ive ever replaced an older style A8 tranny, just changed the fluid and filter, they sometimes leak for the tranny pan but what auto tranny doesn't lol.

 

the only problem I keep having is when I forget I've "tipped" into second, and go driving around at highway speeds, until I realize how AMAZINGLY tight my throttle-control is, and pop it back into "D." Or, think Im in TIP-mode, when I'm not, and bump in into neutral... Can we say REDLINE?!?!?
