Default air suspension, again

Hi All,

I have a 2004 a8l with 151K and it looks like there is another issue with the air suspension. Previously, I had a bad shock on the passenger side, which has since been replaced and all was good.
Now, both my front shocks are down (looks like no air). My rear is still up. The compressor is running and I looked for airline disconnects, but cannot find anything. Even checked the solenoid block where all the lines come together.
Don't think it is the relay (j403) as the compressor is running.
I am out of ideas and am hoping any of you have some.

Thanks,
Ronald

Default No codes found

I checked with vcds-lite and did not see any codes. Not sure if the full version would (will) give me more info.

VCDS lite just pulls codes.
The full version does a full interrogation of every module for freeze frames, etc.

It's possible the relay has fused, but might also be a small leak somewhere or the other air strut has split.

Default purchased vag and replaced compressor

SO after finding faults for the compressor, through my full version of Vag-com, I installed a new compressor and a new relay.
All I have now is a rear wheel driver side that is up and the rest is completely down. I tested for leaks at all connections and cannot find any. The compressor is running great and no fault errors.(other than flashing lights at the dash. I can even leave the system off for 3 days and then disconnect 1 of the connections (i.e. drivers side front shock) and air will come out.

Could it be the valve block? Is there a way to test it? I hate to spend another $500 only to find that it was not the problem.
Is there a reset I have to preform as the system was down that long?

Please help, I am not sure what else I can do. My car has been down for 4 weeks now.

I am going to run the compressor again for a couple of times to see if I can see any codes pop up and will update here.

Thanks,
Ronald

Default codes found not sure if they matter

Here are the codes that it still shows:

2 Faults Found:

00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
008 - Implausible Signal
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11101000
Fault Priority: 3
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 1
Mileage: 254720 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2003.10.08
Time: 00:01:43

01400 - Suspension Level Control
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 11100010
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 1
Mileage: 254720 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2003.10.08
Time: 00:00:17

So I am not sure what is going on. The car is on jacks (on the suspension) in the front, so it can still lift properly without hurting the shocks.

01400 - Ross-Tech Wiki

Possible Solutions
Check System for Leaks
See Factory Repair Manual for Details
Let the System cool down before any further Attempts
Have you cleared the DTC, driven and scanned again ?

Default Cleared dtc

Jakematic,

Thanks for the replies. I have cleared the DTC, but did not drive it. It does not look like it is pumping up at all (other than the one rear wheel), so it is not even drivable.

I am going to do another check for leaks tonight. I was wondering if there is a trick to finding leaks. I have used the soap water in a spray bottle trick, but someone mentioned about a test with Smoke. I understand what that would do, but i am not sure how I could do that, tryuing to get smoke through such a small airline.
Are there any other options to test for leaks?

Default

This happen to me few months back. The front shocks were down, back ok. Audi dealer fix it by changing both front shocks , compressor, relays, solenoid. Cost me a fortune they said the shocks have a lot of electronics inside and due to aging they become malfunction . They said the air lines are very tough rubber and don't leak or puncture. So you best bet is to look at the shocks, i know it really hurts to replace them
Good luck

Default I hope it is not the shocks

One shock is already replaced twice (arnott). I certainly hope I do not have 3 bad shocks now. I still have to send 2 cores back, so that should handle one shock and the warranty should handle the other, but before I go there, how do I know?
