Hi,
I have a 2011 A8 (D4). It's a 3.0TDI Quattro model, with the 8-speed ZF transmission.
It has developed a gear selection problem (after a hot coffee spill on the centre console). Intermittently, the car then wouldn't select R, N, P (in which case it doesn't start), etc.
It went to an Audi dealership. They tried fitting a new relay and control unit underneath the gear selector, thinking that was the problem (based on the diagnostic fault codes, etc, they were getting).
That hasn't fixed the problem. Now they say that the only next step that they can try is to replace the whole mechatronics unit (for the transmission). That part costs over €6,000 (new from Audi) plus labour, etc.
Has anyone had a similar problem? I'm looking up mechatronics units (for the transmission) on parts/breakers sites, but they're hard to pin down in Ireland or the UK. When I ring the breakers, the mechatronics unit has already been sold, etc.
Thanks
