Exclamation Cam Adjuster solenoid=1581,97?

Hello, I'm new to this form and I'm sorry that my first introduction starts off whit a question! I recently bought a A8L 2004 and I had it serviced by the Audi dealer (total costs 4000,-).

After this service the MIL warning light appeared so I went back to the audi dealer and they told me the Cam adjuster solenoid needs to be replaced. Is this a common problem and at what mileage does this generally occur? My car has just over the 50.000 miles on it.

Further more they gave me a price indication of the part +replacement: 1581,97. Part is quite expensive around 900. I searched the internet but I couldn’t find this part; can somebody help me finding this part?

Thanks for your help!

Regards,

Davince

What services were performed that totaled $4,000!?

The book says that you have to remove and install the timing belt and cams to change out the tensioner, this of course isn't true and the dealer tech won't do this. You will be raped at the dealer, find a good euro repair shop to take care of your car. The prejudice from the dealer assumes that all owners of A8's have lots of money so they will try and sell you unnessary garbage that you don't need. Don't trust dealer technicians when you are out of warranty.

Thanks for your advice! I made an apointment with a local VW/audi car dealer. I hope it's not a big change. So it should be possible to replace the cam adjuster solenoid without removing belt and cams? And is the accessibility good or do they have to rip a lot of parts to get trought the tensioner? Where can I find a price indication of the part since I checked several sites with no result.

In the 4000 dollar they did the 55000 mil maintenance in combination with the cleaning of the fuel system. Further more the most expensive one, they replaced an electrical unit underneath the passenger seat since it was obstructing the electrical power to the ceiling systems including the roof and lights (took them 2 days finding the problem!!). In addition they also replaced the front bushing (common problem?)

After this maintenance was done I received the MIL warning light, unfortunaly I did not received the fault code. Am I able to check the fault codes of the vehicle?

Thanks again for your help.

They won't have to remove the belt and cams, but you will be charged for it because thats what the book says. Thats the flat rate system. The tech will get paid about 8 hours even if it only takes him 1 hour to do the change.
As for the bushing, i can only imagine you mean the upper control arm bushings. They screwed you there also, because there are 4 total. If they only replaced one then that means you have 3 more that will fail soon. So they are gonna get you AGAIN on labor to remove the control arms. This dealership is taking advantage of you.
