Default CAT Warning

Hi Guys and Gals.

I'm the English guy living in Moscow with an Audi 8 and the Handbook in German!!

My CAT Warning light came on today and I was unsure what to do. Anyway I didn't drive far and had to stop, when I re-started the engine the warning light had gone out. My German friend says that I need to take the vehicle to the Audi Service Centre to change something (he didn't know the English word) as he said 'something' might be blocked and it could start a fire.

Could anyone offer some advice of what I am being warned about, what needs to be checked/changed and likely costs? Many thanks.

Well, that's quite a combination of language issues you have going on ! In the states, we don't have the CAT light, the catalytic converter and/or oxygen sensor codes come up with the Check Engine light. So, your light is on because of either the converter or 02 sensor going bad.

The Audi CATS don't seem to last as long as they should, I've replaced a few. Is it running ok? If so, I wouldn't worry about it for now. I would suggest getting the codes scanned which will tell you CAT or 02 sensor. The 02 sensor (s) are the cheaper of the two if you need anything done.

Many thanks. The warning light has not come back on since, but I will have a diagnostic test run on it shortly.
