If I ever get the friggin' plate holder bracket off the car will there be a nice recess just right for a Euro plate or does the car need a bracket?

Here is what I have now (blech!)

 

Carefully prying around the plate holder with a plastic putty knife will help release the clips - 6 or 8 of them I think.

Any Euro bracket will work. I drilled a couple holes and used push in rivets from Lowes to make the tag/bracket conform to the shape of the bumper cover.

 

Jakematic - THANK YOU for that quick, perfect answer! I can see where the tabs are and I finally got that hideous bracket off the car! It looks just like the your first pic.
Now sell me your filler plate!

Your plate looks great in its euro-hole! What does VDT mean?

Filler plate is long gone unfortunately - got pounced on when I asked how to take it off, and it went quick!

Yeah there's something about that color.
It never looks great in pictures but in person there is serious wow factor.
Color has been one of the big holdups on me getting a 2012 - just can't decide and they don't make Platinum Beige Pearl Effect anymore.

I got the tag from a custom shop in Germany and the stickers from somewhere out west.
VDT stands for Vorsprung durch Technik, or loosely translated 'Progress through Technology'

I wish someone who has the blank and who wants to exchange it for mine with the bracket would pounce on mine!

The A8 is my "wife's car" (that is, the car I got for her in case she needs to go to the store to buy me stuff); she's German originally, and I want to get "DAS BOOTIE" but she won't let me. Maybe "DER KOMMISAR" which is her favorite song, next to "99 Luftballons".

 

Post on AW and QW in the A8 sections - guys are always looking for the front tag holder who live in states requiring it.

DER KOMMISAR, now I like that. Maybe on my next one!

I used 3M double sided foam tape on the back of mine and has been super solid for almost 2 years now and give it a fresh flush mount look

 

Cool, looks good. That 3M VHB (Very High Bond) tape is da bomb!
