Help, Broken Hose

Help, Broken Hose
Can anyone tell me what type of hose this is? When I had to get some body work done on my car, the shop pulled the plastic cover to this hose. They showed it to me when I came to pick the car up. Don't know if they broke (highly doubt it) it or my crooked dealership broke it. Doesn't look like a break that would happen during normal wear and tear.
I have googled Audi A8 engine hoses and couldn't find anything. They didn't know what it was at Autozone. I can take it some other places, but I hope that one of you know what is going on.
Would this break cause me to smell exhaust fumes in the car? (I do). Also, would this cause a check engine light to come on due to fuel being too lean?
Thanks,
George

That hose is a part of crank case ventilation system. Search using key words "breather" or "vent hose" or "pvc"... That hose may be the problem causing the smell and the check engine light. For temporary fix, I would use a bit thicker piece of hose and two clamps to reconnect the broken ends.
