Looking to buy a 06 A8 with 78K miles, what to look for?
Hello everyone,
I am new to forum. Looking at a 06 A8 with 78K miles (V8 4.2), did some research and really didn't read anything negative. I thought I could collect some decent info from you guys before buying it.
What I am looking for is what am I supposed to look for when buying this car
Any recalls, common problems, maintenance schedule and etc. Any info would be appreciated. The owner said they serviced the brakes and flushed brake fluid and coolant at 70K, is anything else up at 78K?
Does this model have a timing belt or a chain? I've never seen any car with a timing belt that has 6 and more cylinders but still want to to make sure.
Since these are awd cars, any specific maintenance required at or around 78K?
I appreciate your input in advance.

They switched to chain for model year 2007.
I have a 2006 with 98,000 almost flawless miles.
Warranty work done was new thermostat and suspension air pump around 50,000 miles.
I highly recommend to put a timing belt on anytime after 75,000 miles because if it snaps you have major valve damage.

Biggest nightmare you could have: look for a slow coolant leak from passenger side of engine block... if you see it, run and don't buy the car.
It's a small plastic pipe wedged between the block and oil filter housing. It gets brittle and breaks, and you have to pull the engine/trans in order to get to it.
Make sure rear shade works
MMI screen opens/closes without skipping
Test all buttons on the MMI, if any don't work you will need a new computer
Test air suspension - make sure it goes into lift mode, dynamic mode, etc. Make sure it doesn't take too long - about 30-40 seconds from one mode to another.
Make sure air compressor is not overly noisy.
Test transmission, make sure it shifts smoothly.
Test center vents on dash - make sure they blow hot and cold on demand. If they don't work, it's a PITA to fix
I might be missing something, but these are common issues
