Default Parking Brake Malfunction '06 A8

These warning lights just came on today. I have been getting the replace brake pad warning as well. So is this just because the brake pads need to be replaced or is it something in addition to that? and....this might sound dumb but if the parking brake is not working if i park my car on a hill will it keep rolling?

Usually when the rear brakes wear out you will get a parking brake malfunction light, and you will need a vag com to clear the fault, and to change the brake pads by retracting the piston. The rear brakes on a D3 A8 tend to wear on the inside pads about 40% faster than the outer pad, so if it looks like the outer pad (the one you can see) has a little meat on it, chances are the inner pad is metal to metal. I can only speculate that the electronic parking brake causes minor drag on the rotor by pushing the inner pad into it. If you don't have a vag com, take it to the dealer or and audi indy shop.

thanks man. So i should have the rear brakes changed first and then clear with vag com to see if thats all it takes. Funny thing is the brakes dont make any noise no squeaking or grinding noises.

Not yet at least.... I would have the rear pads pulled to check the pads, if the inner pads are toast replace them and you should be good to go, if they look ok you might have an electrical glitch with the parking brake, and no they won't work if they have a malfunction light present.
I should also state that if the brake light wear indicator light is on, chances are the front brakes are causing that light, as they have the wear sensors built into them, not the rears. Im guessing you need brakes all they way around.
