comparatively speaking, the price of the gasket is negligible. The cost of REPLACING the gasket in time, effort, and labor costs is why cars with blown head-gaskets are generally discarded by their owners and sold for whatever they can get for them.

Your $12,000.00 cost for your 80-90k-mileage car doesn't mention what year it is. Or take into account WHY the head gasket is blown. Head gaskets rarely fail on their own, especially in a car w/only 90,000mi on it.. Something hadda MAKE it go. Either abuse or neglect. You don't want an abused or neglected car. And certainly not one that already needs a couple thou worth of work, which is what a blown head gasket will set you back, unless you're gonna wrench it yourself.
