Default New Q5 Owner, loud noise

Picked up a 2010 Q5 with 19k on it. When you walk to front bumper when it is idling, it is loud. i got a bmw and had a trailblazer ss and they are pretty quite compared to the q5. Any one else's the same way?

Which engine ?
The 2.0L Turbos do make a lot of 'rattling' grumbling noises, but the performance/mpg for such a little 4 banger somewhat makes up for it IMHO

Part of it is also the quietness of the exhaust note.
we opted to replace the two rear resonators to give it a bit more exhaust note to mask the engine noises.
nothing, mind you, that would introduce drone into the cabin, but just enough to make it sound a bit better and the byproduct of a little better flow thru the hi-flow replacements can't hurt !

Default It's normal

I picked up a 2010 3.2l with 19k miles (1 year 2 months ago)... same thing with me. I had it checked out by two Audi Service Shops and they both stated it's normal. The cabin and road noise are quiet, but as with you, I thought the engine was louder than normal when listening from the front. I've since learned, that is the personality of the Vehicle, especially the "tick tick tick". Prior to this I was a BMW and Acura owner, I didn't expect Audi's engine to be so noisy but has been a perfect vehicle, so far (15k miles later). Nothing to worry about

Hey, well its hard to compare because i love german vehicles. I had an 06 tbss for almost 4 years. Honestly i dont miss it at all. When you get in the audi you can tell the way it is made is 100 times better then an american car. Q5 is a little bit wider and not as much trunk as the tbss but thats fine with me. Ride is deff smoother and more gadgets to play with too. It aint no 6.0 but the gas mileage makes up for it. I have had audi's in the past and the 4 wheel drive is amazing. At the end of everything the tbss is nice but it is out of date compared to the Audi Q5. Good luck

I had A4 3.0 (V6 engine) before which I traded in for 2.0T Q5. From my experience, Audi car seems louder than others but the cabin is kind of quite. My friend's and neighbor's VW are the same thing. I guessed it happens to all VAG cars. Nothing to worry about it.

smokeshow77 - thanks for the info. now i just have to decide on the 2.0 or the 3.2.
i like the mpg savings on the 2.0, but from what ive read, the 3.2 sounds a little better and has a little more pick up. my trailblazer has a tune, cai, and exhaust, and i have a feeling im going to miss the sound if i move over to a 2.0 - haha!

get the best of both worlds - the 2.0T and a $500 tune will make it purrfect:

sample of tuned and magnflows for sound:
