Towing with the Q5
#2
zimmerdj,
I have thought about towing my 20 foot center console (all in weight with allowances 3900lbs) with my '18 Q5. I researched the various hitch options and decided to just pay the money and go with a dealer installed hitch - where I live $1700 to $1800. WOW! I also posted about towing with this car and rec'd some disconcerting answers.
While the car can pull 4400lbs, that does not mean it should nor at highway speeds. My MDX (previous vehicle) was rated to tow 5000lbs and in later models dumbed down to 3000lbs. It handled the tow up I 95 through NY though I was nervious every time I did it. I recently towed my boat with a borrowed F 250. No comparison. So I guess I will get a trailer hitch for the Thule bike rack I have and pay someone to tow my boat when necessary.
let me knnow how you do
thanks
Rob

I would recommend looking at https://stealthhitches.com/. I purchased one becuase its cost was 1/2 of what the dealership was charging and I installed it in about three hours. From my experience, the quality is beyond what I expected and I enjoy the fact, when I am not using it, it is out of sight.

It depends on what you want. The product is solid and clean. That is what I wanted and I am glad I purchased it. However the more I thought about it, I wanted the stock Audi electronic setup for the towing for all the bells and whistles the stock setup offers. After installing the Stealth Hitch, I went back and bought the Audi electronics. I went the absolutely most expensive route. While I have exactly what I want, I now have an Audi hitch and Stealth towing harness in my garage collecting dust.
I'm not exactly sure your setup but the Stealth Hitch recommends AGAINST using the 2" receiver for towing and why they provide the ball mount. The 2" receiver is primarily used for bike racks and the like.
I hope that helps.
