New here, questions on the 7???
Hey all. New here and we are looking at a new/used Q7. What is with the invoices being less on the 2011's vs 2010's?? I see the engines have changed and they are down to a 3.0 supercharged for both gas options, almost like they just changed the blower pulley or remap the ecm... I kinda liked the option of the v6/v8 in the 2010 or earlier versions. Not really interested in the diesel.
I know there was a recall in 07? about the gasket for the sunroof leaking down into the pillars.. Not sure about anything else. Went to the dealer today and he has an older Q7 3.6, he cranked it and it seemed to be smoking a little. It was darkish black smoke and seemed to go away after idleing for a bit... Weird, my 05 dodge 5.7 doesnt do that and has 50K miles... Also carpet seemed like a cheap aftermarket replacement and it had dark red stains around the doorsill areas front and rear...
Anyhow we drove an new 333hp s-line q7 and that seemed to be great, the rear a/c worked much better, interior was super nice, but at 60K+.
You guys are the ones that know all this stuff so I need some help as to go new (ouch!) or find a particular model used?? Like what engine used is the most reliable 3.6 or 4.2 etc...
Thanks!

Well, I'm not an expert on the Q7s yet, but I bought a used 2007 about 3 months ago and can give you some ideas of things to look at or check out during a test drive. I have no idea how many were remedied by 2010.
- MMI panel will be ruined if you spill something on/in it...even though it is located right in front of the cup holders. No gaskets on the buttons. The entire car runs off that system and it will be a $1000+ repair if it happens...so check that out if it's used and ask the dealer if they have changed the design to avoid that.
- Take some time to play with the MMI system...it's the least user friendly mutli function system I've seen and I've had Mercedes, Infiniti, Lexus and GM. Strange locations for controls and not intuitive.
- Test drive it on rough roads, not perfect asphalt. Complaints abound regarding the interior noises from rear seats and hatches. No fixes available.
- Engine noise is way higher than you would think for a $60k car and on road ride is much stiffer than you would expect form a high end Euro. You will feel every crack in the road...think Porsche boxster handling.
- Leather seating surfaces have been known to crack at less than 50K miles in high wear areas. You are right about the carpet being cheap.
All in all, if you are looking for a luxury SUV that lives up to it's price tag I'd look at something else. If you get a great deal on used, like I did, you can live with certain things.

Yesterday I got Stanley and Selena! They are adorable. I never really like rats, but now I do. Since I'm new at this and going by what the pet store told me, I need some advice/answered questions from experienced rat people. Here it goes.
