new Q7 impressions
This is my first Audi (2019 Q7). I have the car abut 3 weeks now - here are my first impressions:
positives:
1. car has a very high quality interior (as one would expect).
2. car is easy to drive and very comfortable to drive (I am a large person)
3. to my eyes, the car is very attractive (inside and outside).
shortcomings (some of you may find these picayune - to me they are irritants that detract from a $70,000 automobile and things that most other car makers are able to address):
1. cupholders are sized to fit only narrow diameter bottles. Any larger diameter bottles/cups are up for grabs. Pretty absurd that Audi couldn't manage to provide more flexible cupholders.
2. storage - minimal at best. Audi couldn't figure out how to increase storage capacity in a 7 seater SUV ? Granted I am downsizing from a Sequioa and I don't think I will need as much space as before. But nevertheless...
3. front seat center storage console is a joke. Again - Audi - you couldn't figure out how to make this space larger and more practical - it's barely big enough for 2 pair sunglasses
4. hands-free lift gate function works very poorly.
5. flat tire tool kit - really Audi ? You couldn't figure out how to create built in storage and just provide a tie-down in the cargo area ? This is inexcusable.
5. MMI recognizes handwriting input but is still awkward to use.
6. That it is necessary to input the VIN # each time you want to access the online owners manual is a big PITA; I don't understand why Audi deems inputting the VIN # necessary.
Went on first long trip (NY-Boston) last week. I was happy to get out and stretch my legs afterwards.

small cupholders is a classic in european cars. We simply do not use the large US cups over here, people dont drink a quarter during a drive... you should not compare with e.g. BMW X...they are built in USA and much more aware of local needs..
Lack of storage space is also an audi "classic", there are a lot of jokes about it over here... so it should not really come as a surprise. Somehow Audi customers dont care that much about it
I fully agree that the central console space is a joke. This has to do with the technical setup. The floor is relatively low (helps the handling) and Audi's quattro + gearbox take an awful lot of space...
I think the MMI is a massive improvement against the previous versions, and the handwriting on the big touchscreen is brilliant (you can write the whole name instead of a letter at a time).
flat tire tool kit. See above about space underfloor. But I thought there would be an option ?
I am surprised about the VIN,... sounds really odd and I agree if confirmed it is annoying.
I think in summary if you want a competent but soft driving 7-seater there are MANY better options on US cars. If you want to drive like an AUDI than it is the right car :-)
Enjoy your trip to Boston :-)
