Seeking to install 2015 Q7 Receiver Hitch
I have 2015 Q7.
I'd like to install simple receiver trailer hitch for my Thule bike rack. Dealer tells me $1300 for hitch + 9 hours of labor and encouraged me not to have it done there. They recommended going to local bike shop and have after market one put on.
I went to bike shop - their supplier doesn't make one for Q7.
What to do?
There are several aftermarket models on the internet. But, if I go with aftermarket model, who can I trust to install it? Will it interrupt parking cameras? Has anyone had this done successfully?
I'm seriously questioning why I have this super expensive car and I can't even get a bike rack put on.

i tried a uhaul store, and the guy had like 1/4 of a socket set and a hammer. i paid for install and ended up working with the guy for like 3 hours trying to figure out the wiring and fit of the hitch they had.
the wiring part wasnt too hard, but i couldnt get something to work like the running lights or turns, i forget which. was a pain to try to find which wire ran the signal when the computer doesnt blink the same lights when the tailgate is open, therefore i had to climb around with a voltmeter and test light with the back closed. wasnt hard, but wasnt fun.
but the hitch they sent simply didnt fit. i was looking at doing a good bit of carving on the bumper cover, and after 3 hours of doing the labor myself, i gave up. paid ~$900 for an audi official trailer control unit and bumper. install was done in like 20 minutes, no joke. if you look at labor + parts cost at uhaul vs doing it yourself, its only like $300 more. which isnt a small amount.. but after 3 hours, i gladly paid it. as an FYI, tell the dealership that AUDI THEMSELVES sell the hitch on amazon for cheaper than they quote, and they'll price match it.
so if you get a non audi branded hitch, research how well it fits!

The wiring harness is simple. There is a blank plate towards the bottom of the bumper cover. Unscrew four screws and remove the plate. Plug in the wiring receiver and then screw it in using the four screws you had already removed.
That's how it was on mine. But I did order mine with the factory receiver but not the wiring harness. I bought the harness from Amazon for like 20 bucks.
