Default '01 TT: New battery, now immobiliser kicks in

I replaced the battery in my '01 TT Quattro for the first time since I've had it. I did this two days ago and everything was fine. I started it up just to test, but didn't drive anywhere.

Now when I try to start the car, it just dies right away. I assume this is the immobiliser. I've tried to start it with all 3 of the keys that I have with no luck.

Is there any way to get around this without having to go to the dealer?

Thanks.

search "key dance". I would try that.

Thanks. That didn't work, but I disconnected/reconnected the battery and it worked again. Weird.

So, this happened again last night. Tried to start the car and it starts normally, but shuts off within a few seconds.

I didn't realize that there was a specific immobilizer light before, but it doesn't come on when this happens, so it doesn't look like that's the problem.

However, the battery/generator light does come on. Does anyone know what the problem may be here? It doesn't seem like anything should be broken, as the car was working fine until the battery died.
