Default 2.7t swap

has anyone swapped the 2.7t into their car or would you say it's just a big waste of money and go for a big turbo set up instead? Reason i am asking is becuase i have found a great condition tt without an engine... and though i currently have a tt this one is a a 2004 so I was seeing around what the price would be to do a 2.7t swap on them.

i know it has been done...

its not pretty though, and very tight... the cost of getting that tt without an engine, a 2.7t engine, and putting it in (not to mention all the little nitty gritty stuff such as software) would excede the cost of just putting in a bigger turbo which would satisfy your power needs

It has been done a few times. I don't know the pricing tho. I'd bore out the motor & BT.

yea i know it will cost quite a lot... and i would never think of doing this to my tt, but my stepdad called me today got a GREAT deal on one without an engine so that is the reason why im asking around what the price would be. I wouldn't swap out of my 1.8t but it seems if i do end up selling mine and driving this one it would be nice to have something different like the 2.7t. any more information on this is greatly appreciated.

that sounds like a sick idea to me.

i mean, if the car is currently engine-less how much more could it possibly cost to get a 2.7 in there as opposed to another 1.8???

would love to see a write-up on this (even though i would never do it myself).

it sounds like the perfect opportunity within this situation.

The 2.7T doesnt fit well at all. Longitude motors are no easy to shoehorn into the car. If you want big power and a FAR easier install, get either a 2.8L VR6 from a MKIV or a 3.2 VR6 from a TT/R32. These will give you the added displacement with room for a turbo and ability to make huge power with far less lag. You should be able to find a nice 12V VR6 from a mkiii VR6 for extremly cheap

just tweak the **** out of a 1.8t, get 400hp plus AND STILL KEP THE WEIGHT DOWN.

A VR6 isnt that much heavier and can make the 400whp+ easier. Remember, there is not engine in it

2.7t would require alot. You cant use the haldex with it, you need a quattro driveline or convert to rwd. VR6 much greater imho. Makes more power, cheaper to tune. It wins hands down. The 2.7t is very cool though. The one i saw was insane. Do you still have a transmission? If you go vr6 you will need the r32 tranny regardless of what vr6. If you did a r32 motor into it, it is a really simple swap. Everything is plug and play. No hardwiring. Just a Immo defeat. Also i am selling my AMU drivetrain if you decide to go back to 1.8t. Engine, tranny, harness, computer. selling it complete 3500 bucks.
