Default 2000 Audi TT good buy?

I've been looking for a new car and I found an 2000 Audi TT quattro 5 speed with 61k miles for about $12000. The price is right but I have heard too many stories about the maintance being far too expensive. Would this car be a good investment, or just a money hole?

I would say go for an 02 225hp 6 speedwith the same amount of miles or even less and pay the additional $5000. You will probably have a better chance sellin it when your ready to give it up than the 2000 that your looking at now. And im sure if you give it some time you may find an 02 with upgrades... keeping looking and good luck!!!

The people here with 2000's seem to have less problems than the ones with the newer models. Havent had a problem with mine. That car is barely used, and if its your price, go for it. You will need to get the timing belt change withen the next 5-10k miles.

Well I own a 2000 180 TT Quattro Manual Coupe... Have had zero(0) problems.
I bought mine a year ago with 53K on it. Did the timing belt, water pump and tensioner at 59K. Now I have 61K and the car runs like a dream!
Only thing I've had a problem with is that my rear spring is snapped. But that's a simple $150 fix for four(4) new springs, which will lower my car .9 of an inch.
I also put new pads and rotors on... but those are a wear item so I can't complain!

Take it for a test drive and ask the dealer for a carfax report.
Good luck and let us know how you make out!

acutally the easiest to upgrade is the 180fwd, parts a plenty since they share just about everything with the gti/jetta mkiv's.
