2008 Roadster - Top won't go up!
Had to take our 2008 3.2 Quattro Roadster back to the dealer on Monday for the 2nd time with a top that won't go up!
According to their service manager it's the same cause as the first time (about a month or so ago), a screw in the mechanism has broken and a replacement has to come all the way from Audi.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and, if so, has their dealer arrived at a more permanent solution? (our dealer's service manager claims to have seen several 08s with this same problem)
We're worried that this will happen again at the worst possible moment (when it begins to pour rain) and raising the top manually is (1) horribly complicated, (2) takes a considerable amount of time, and (3) according to the manual, requires two people to perform.
btw, the dealer was able to put up the top manually, but having to visit them every time we want the top up is a bit inconvenient!

- the elusive part needed to repair ours came in this morning and will be taking it in tomorrow to have it repaired and service manager stated this should fix it for good (however, hedged his bet by saying that, of course, he couldn't predict the future). Have logged a complaint with Audi USA about both the defect and the length of time it's taken to get it fixed as am concerned this might be a "lemon law" issue and want to make certain we've started the process before we hit the magic 18,000 mile mark (after which, in NY, we're out of luck!). Not happy that we've not been able to put our top down for over 20% of our nice weather this year!
Dealer fixed the top yesterday and all seems fine at the moment . . . repair was covered by TSB #2018777/1 (FF Flap Motor Adjustment) with the following detail:
"13877 Adjustment run G.F.F. adjust flap servor motor linkage as per tech bull2018777/1 perform adaption on motors top now working as designed"

Had to take our 2008 TT Roadster back to the dealer for the 3rd time last week for a top that wouldn't go up! However, this time they replaced the wing flap motors rather than just some bolts (what they did the first 2 times) so, hopefully, this episode is now history and we can continue enjoying our otherwise wonderful car with no further worries about getting stuck in inclement weather with a top that's stuck in the down position!
Apparently Audi has now encountered enough of these that they've upgraded the TSB to their dealers to allow for motor replacement (although possibly not on the first time you bring your car in for this problem). Anyone else encountered this problem and, if so, how many times before you got a new motor?

Mine did the same thing. 3500 miles on it. Dealer said bad batch of wing flap motors. They did a "retrofit" and replaced the motors. My closest dealer is 160 miles away. A VW dealer released the presssure and put the top up, otherwise they would have had to wrap the car and then tow it. As it is they still took it by flatbed to Jacksonville to fix.
Seems that this is an old thread, but just wanted to blow off some steam about these stupid Flap motors! Being an engineer, I don't understand why these motors keep failing when all they do is lift a stupidly light weight piece of plastic. First time, my warranty covered it, second time my salesman convinced the service dept to take care of it "good will". Third time I paid $870 to have them fixed. Now the fourth time I refused to pay again.
I sent certified letters to Scott Keogh (president USA) and three other top level execs only to get a phone call from customer service saying there is nothing they can do. Really?
This will be the last time I buy an Audi, and earlier this year we did purchase a Q5, but now I've had it. Seems the Audi brand clearly doesn't care about their loyal customers.
Anyway, thanks for anyone listening.

I had a '11 G37S folding hard top and it was a horror story. Dents in roof panels, water leaks, squeaks, sensors sensors sensors!!!!!
Well, I'm not going to go quietly and forget about this problem. Audi is going to be sorry that they refused to acknowledge this and blow me off!
Hi. we've had our 2008 TT roadster in the dealer for the past 3 days while they try to figure out why the roof won't move. It failed in the open position last Sunday. manually closed it, and took it to the dealer on Tuesday with the printed history of having two flap motors previously replaced. As of today (Thursday), the dealer says they've been unable to identify the fault, and they've not been able to get the roof to move at all. They reported that they've now resorted to bench testing each module to discover the hidden fault. Anyone else run into anything similar? any suggestions? thanks in advance.
