Default 3rd of 3? 2001 Roadster: What is this?

I thought I only had 2 questions, but I forgot about this one. Unfortunately, I'm sick and can't get out to take a picture, but I think I can describe this easily.

I can't identify what the seemingly removable panel is that is located at about shoulder height between the seats of my 2001 roadster. It's a rectancular plastic panel that looks like a storage compartment.

Any clues?

Thanks,
Jon

It's a storage compartment. No other mystery. The door should be attached and swing down from the top. You normally press it and it opens. Usually you accidently hit it with your elbow and it opens when you don't want it to. It can be locked shut with the ignition key so it won't open on accident (try unlocking it if you can't open yours), and it is also locked closed when the doors are locked. If yours happens to be broken, no telling what the previous owner did to make it "look right" - it may no longer function.

Thanks again MCP - I can see where I am supposed to be able to push on the top and have it pop down (although it doesn't yet). But you imply that there should be a key lock on it that is unlocked by the ignition key? I don't see anything resembling that on it at all...?
