Default Acheiving > 25 psi Boost

Ok, so the Water / Methanol Injection is complete and the tuning for it is underway. As I gradually advance timing, I'm beginning to think that I am only going to be able to advance the timing by maybe 1-2 degrees. Knowing that the majority of the HP gains from Water/Methanol Injection come not from the injection... but from the aquired ability to advance timing and raise boost to otherwise unsafe levels (unsafe without water/methanol injection).

Well, if it ends up that I can only advance my timing by 1 or 2 degrees now with the water/methanol... then my saving grace will have to be the boost increase. Prior to the Water/Methanol injection installation, I was boosting anywhere from 22-25psi. I commonly refrained from boosting to anything above 23psi because it was very much useless since I was just pushing hot air with litte to no benefit. well now that I have the W/M complete... how do I acheive boost levels between 25-28psi? I've actually had to turn DOWN my boost recently because when i would hit 25psi... the boost would immediately fall off completely down to 15psi... and gradually work its way back up to 25psi and drop off again.

In order to prevent the boost from rising and dropping off, I just lowered the boost with the BM and set it to peak @ 23psi and hold steady @ 22psi.

So how do I raise the "Boost Limiter" or whatever it is that's making the boost drop off?

you running the turbo out of its effiency andshortening the life of the turbo exponationally with to much psi. But you want to watch the iat's and keep them at a reasonable temp since your going to increase heat a good amount with uping the boost that far.

The boost dropping and then going back up sounds like surging to me. If it continues to happen, your hurting the turbo that way also. You can try messing with the BM and see if you can find a happy medium. This might take removing the n75 if you havent.

check out the tuning thread about the boost readings in Vag-Com. I'll run some logs with Boost and IATs tomorrow and see what I can get. I'm starting to worry though. If I can't advance the timing more than 1.5* and I can't raise the boost at all, how am I gonna see the gains from the W/M? Those are the biggest contributors to the W/M benefits aren't they? []

**Edit**
Don't get me wrong, there're other gains other than HP/Tq gains. I mean, I am increasing my Octane levels and lowering my IATs; both of which are very good for the engine and will assist in keeping the system healthy. For that, the system is well worth it; but that isn't the pretenses the company sells the product under. It's sold under the pretenses that it provides significant Horsepower and Torque gains. Then again, I would imagine that it will paylarge dividends once I Upgrade the turbo at the beginning of the year.

Thoughts?

you should be able to advance that much with just a new ic. I would send MY05GLI or Savwko some pms for help.

Yea, I kind of thought that too. It could be that I'm not injecting enough, or maybe that I'm interpretting the small levels of timing pull as having my timing too far advanced (That could very well be absolutely normal)

Have you tried to run lets say 20psi with w/m and try to advance timing more that way? Kinda of backwards thinking but if you were to run less boost you can run more timing within reason right?

I need three things:

- First and foremost I need to go to sleep. lol
- I need to figure out why the Vag-Com is showing that I'm producing 30+psi of boost (I basically just need to fix the math probably)
- I need to find out if the few runs I did graph out are depicting my timing actually being pulled... or if I still have room for advancement in timing.

thats what most people do erin. the power from 18->20 psi isnt that much, but 2-3* btdc is though.

vag adds one atomosphere, so subtract 14.7psi

Wouldn't that be counterproductive?

I mean I suppose that would work... but why would I rob peter to pay paul?
I mean what would be the point in me losing 20hp worth of boost to gain 20hp worth of timing?

that would be pretty insane if the claims made by this system were "Individual system" claims... ie "you can gain 20hp by advancing your timing you just have to lower you boost by 20hp first AND you can gain 20hp from increasing your boost after you back your timing off by approximately 20hp worth of timing" lmao

Gotta read the fine print. DOH!@#$ haha
