Default Advice on 2001 purchase, please

I am interested in this car. It has 89k miles on it but comes from an apparently responsible owner. It has new clutch, brakes and water pump. Is there anything specific to this year and model that I should be aware of or watch for? Thank you so very much

225? 180?
FWD? AWD?

Did they do the Timing belt when they did the water pump?

New water pump by itself= used to overheat, watch out for damage from that.

Have service records? That would be nice.
VIN Check.
VAG Check.

I am told the timing belt was advised to be replaced. Once in there, the water pump and tensioners were replaced.

I have been told that the speedometer and tach are faulty during cold starts. Seller is getting a price for replacement.

Assuming all is then well with this car, is it worth 14,700?

thanks,
Michelle

Still need to know if it's a:
180 or 225?
FWD or AWD?
Coupe or roadster?

to give you an accurate answer whether it's worth it.

FYI KBB value private party is between $9500 (FWD 180hp coupe), and $12,500 (AWD 225hp roadster)depending on what model it is.

I'd advise against buying a car that is selling for over KBB private party value. Much better deals can be had.

No.

80k miles does not = 89k miles.
You fail math.

the cluster will definitely cost some $$ to get fixed.

as long as the timing belt and 60K service were done (all fluids replaced) i would say it will be on the road for a while without problems.

again, what is this thing? 180 or 225? coupe or roadster? need to know that info to give you an accurate appraisal.
