Default air filter/air box

Hey, first time post, got a question about changing my air filter. I have an '02 225, all stock at the moment. I wanted to check my air filter and get just a drop-in K&N or something, but I can't figure out how to get my air box open. I saw the 2 screws on the back side, and the hooks in front, but then the lid seemed to be connected to a hose on the left. I realize this is a very newb question, and I haven't spent too much time fiddling with the lid, but can anybody tell me the best way to open the box up and get at my filter? It seems like it shouldn't be too difficult, but who knows. Thanks

thats about it, undue the two screws and you should be able to get it up enough to slide the filter out and new one in. if you need or would like more room, take off the clamp by the maf, this will let you swing the lid out of the way and not have to mess with the breather hose.

I purchased the K&N and while it's nice it isn't great. Check out http://modshack.info for an awesome intake. I'm saving up for mine now. If you end up still wanting the K&N let me know and I'll sell you mine.

Which intake did you have? I think it's pretty awesome because it directs cool air directly to the airbox (talking about the one with the pipes) thus providing cooler air for the engine. The cones don't make that much of a difference from my understanding because even though it provides more air it's warm. I thought about finding hoses to try to run them to the stock box but haven't decided which to do yet.

thus providing cooler air for the engine.
The air going into your turbo gets super hot because the turbo is.
the only thing that cools down the engine air is intercoolers.
Turbo engines don't care for cold air, they just want as much air as possible

Interesting... I'm still new to turbos but I figured it would be the same ideas. So the whole idea behind the pipes with the modshack intake is just to funnel air?

fixed. but now its huge for some reason...

my point is you dont need cold air,
the perfect intake for a turbo car is the one that gives the most flow:
A filter on a tube.
