codes is the point ( MAFs are sometimes changeable ) and the last letter probably means date of/factory/place

This is what I meant. Not the letter code at the end. This may be nothing but then again, why wouldn't bosch sell the same part number? Am I just overanalyzing the situation and maybe should be looking at something else causing this?

BOSCH Part # 0280217117 - 2001 1.8t B5

BOSCH Part # 0280218063 - 2002 1.8t B6

the part number changes with the manufactures date/time/place and set to country requirements for emissions but that's it so depending on the law where you live the settings could differ

I guess that knowing there were some changes from '01 to '02, that some of the electronics may have changed.....was hoping for a bad MAF sensor and an incorrect replacement.....

very possible but it depends on who fitted it and the experience ( it can be re-programed with VAG ) set up with it, im basing my experience on the older systems which I took apart and set them up for the modifications

well can you offer some advice on programming, because if thats the case I may have caused a more indirect problem. At this point, I have swapped them back and forth 2-3 times to see which performs better and after I had them read the CEL light. I didn't even know it the car had to be re-programmed after swapping a map sensor
