Default anyone have experience with leaking rear main seal??

i think i might be leaking from my rear main seal....i forgot to replace it when i did my clutch...just wondering what some people have done to remedy this. anyone use stop leak for rear main seals?

YESSS they're two main crank seals....one you can access with the tranny off and the other when you take the crank pulley off....i think mine is leaking from the one where the Flywheel is( god i hope not) i;m gonna do some research on this and see what i can find....over at audiworld.com i remember a guy posting about the same damn thing as mine and he even had pics of what i'm descibing.

Hmm I'm not seeing these seals on ECS or some other sites (maybe I missed it) but where can I buy them, other than the dealer

dealer charges 50 bucks for them, they come already pressed into the crank cover. so all you have to do is unbolt the old one and put the new one in. also i dont reccomend using stop leak. it probably wont yeild good results, especially on a turbo car. the seal will have to be replaced, you will have to remove the tranny. the front seal at the pulley almost never fails, i have never done one. the seal will get worst and worst. dont drive the car if it losing oil fast. where are you located? if your near maryland i can do the job pretty cheap.

Ray - Did you do this on my car when you replaced my clutch? Kind of remember you saying that you did before.. butnot sure.

im in IN i will do some checking around....i dont really feel like removing the damn tranny again

Well I had advance auto order me the seal and I picked it up today, but I'm not sure its right... it looks like the picture but on the sticker it says for VW 2.0L SOHC, anyone know if this is right?
