argh. PITA hose better work out...
Installed the Forge turbo inlet hose tonight. Been saying I was getting a samco for a week now, totally forgot I went with the Forge instead, same diff. But I digress.
Step one, pull lightly on the stock hose. Now 99% of it is out, only need to cut the last .5 inch from the turbo. Tells you how bad of a crack I had.
Install the hose, start clamping things to it, and when it comes to the PCV valve, I hit a snag. There is no place of the correct diameter opening on that inlet hose to install the PCV valve. The free location, had it been the right diameter, is about 4" too far from the valve for me to install it anyway.
Oh well.
I made a stainless plug and clamped that in its place. My PCV valve will just hang out for a bit on its own. I never did like it anyway. I think in the next couple weeks, that, and the SAI are getting removed. screw hippies, screw the whales, the environment is already f'd anyway, I just want wrench on my car w/o getting pissed and throwing something.
AND to top it all off, I friggen missed last call at Hooters. I'm not just pissed now, Im goddam pissed.

You might have bought the wrong one. There's two versions. One for us '00-'02 & '03-'06. I did the forge inlet last weekend. OMG PITA to the max! Have fun getting the hose on the turbo thentightening it? I know I did.

Which one did you have trouble with?

Cause I didn't trim the one I put on at all.
But I'm planning on removing the SAI, N249, PCV & EVAP soon. I'm just trying to figure out how not to throw a CEL. Let me know if you figure out a way past that.

boost control valve is already bypassed, so that was plugged right off the bat. It was the hockey puck that gave me trouble.
The car had me a little worried when I started it after the install. Been quite a while with incorrect flow thru the maf, and it took a minute for it to readjust. Right off the bat, idle had me about 10"HG in vac, lots of sputtering. That smoothed out though.
I STILL only boost to 4psi though. That drives me nuts. No CEL. Tomorrow I do another pressure test and see if I have any other leaks now that the huge one is fixed.
Limp... I can work thru it. The no CEL part, making me pull my hair out trying to work thru it.

I have nothing helpful to add but that was funny.
I went on vacation in New Jersey and didnt know what last call was.lol.
it is a bitch to get the hose clamped to the turbo, or even the hose fully seated on the turbo. I have skinny arms though, so after a few scrapes, I got my arm in there with a stubby screwdriver and got it clamped down. lubed the end of the hose with WD40 to ease installation onto the turbo.
a bit more prodding around, and Im starting to think my wastegate actuator crapped out. I bet my wastegate is stuck open, and thats why I only make 5psi. Dunno if there's much you can do about that....
Awesome timing for this. I'm supposed to be leading a cruise this weekend thru the mountains. *****.

argh. Or not...
Wedged my arm down in there and the linkage doesnt bind. Pulled it, put the signal hose in my mouth, and released, and I could feel the pressure difference, with pretty much no bleed down (my mouth isn't calibrated, so Im not 100% positive, but there isn't an obvious leak either).

ok, problem solved. just takes some time and a level head.
I wasn't getting signal to the wastegate, but the wastegate checked out ok, and the hoses checked out ok. I thought it might be the MBC, so I switched back to the N75. No change.
Sounds like everything checks out alright, right?
Well, my N75 is possibily faulty, so I wouldnt' get anywhere by switching back to that. The MBC I have came with a soft spring good for something like a 5psi adjustment over stock. Thats stock wastegate spring, which is about 7psi Im told.
Nobody in their right mind is gonna install a MBC and crank the thing ALL THE WAY up, but since the spring in mine is good for 5 psi, and the wastegate is good for 7, cranked all the way up gives me 12 psi. Still below what Im used to seeing. I had a hunch and just cranked it, and thats what I got.
My MBC was SUPPOSED to come with 2 springs, one harder which is what I need, but didn't find in the package. Time for an email to Hallman. Until then, I'll be VERY happy with my 12psi, knowing I didn't have to spend a dime to diagnose/fix my problem.

I am glad to hear you got the problem essentially solved for now, sorry to hear you missed boobage and beer though :-) Is there anyway you got a tip for an 01 amu w/esp? the setup is a little different. If you want to try swapping in my wastegate controller to confirm thats the problem, thats fine with me. we are still thinking what shaws at 3?
