Audi 2000 1.8t Help!
I have been having some issues with my car. I was driving home one night and all of a sudden it lost alot of power and started to missfire. I Brought it to my mechanic and he told me is was randomly missfiring and i had no compression in cylinder 4. Changed the plugs and wires and still nothing. Now he says i blew my engine and wants to charge me 3000. The car ran and everything its hard to believe that i blew the engine. Any suggestions?
hold a minuet, he replaced the wires? you have coil packs. its rare for the 1.8t to blow up unless its severly modified or the timing belt goes, which would make your engine not run at all. most likley you have a bad coil pack, and i wouldn't trust that mech at all, coil packs from german car parts are about 28 dollars a peice. coil packs are fairly common to go bad btw and will cause the same symtom you experianced.
I doubt you blew your engine. If you had bad sounds/smells/smoke would be coming from either the front of the car or rear/both. I would double check that the plugs and packs Were indeed changed. When you were driving it and the power loss occured - Were there any sounds that occured? (Pop or a Pssssht or Bang?) Check turbo hoses (Pancake pipe behind Passnger Front Tire) to make sure it's snug and attatched.
What were the compression #'s for Cyl 1-2-3-4? If 4 is holding No pressure at all I would bank on a blown head gasket or possibly damaged internals. How many miles are on the car and what's been serviced recently?

try to get the coil packs from the 225, they're supposedly much more reliable, but a little more expensive.

The Hitachi versions are the more reliable ones.
Hey thanks allot for your help. I have tried changing the coil packs and so did he and nothing. I have had the same mechanic for about a year or two mostly works on high end cars like Mercedes and ext. He does not specialize in VW/Audi tho. The problem happened when I let me friend drive my car and he downshifted from a high rpm 3rd to second. The car feels and I'm almost sure its running on one or two cylinders. Very low acceleration and misfiring. The car does have some mods to it such as exhaust, chip, intake, bov, nothing great.I just recently got an oil change also full synthetic so that cant be the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
the infamous misfire well known in the trade and when coupled with excited driving the results are broken valves so a compression test is wise,
in many cases the misfire causes the valve to stay open when it should not and that's why you get a valve/piston strike
edit: its much more complicated than that to explain and that's the short version

Any other details you want to add?
Did he downshift while driving off of a cliff?
